Learn to teach, Teach to Learn
Our Teacher Training & Yoga Intensive Program blends contemporary science & technology with traditional yoga philosophy. Learn the fascinating story behind the 6,000-year-old discipline of yoga and discover how to incorporate this powerful knowledge into every aspect of your life. Join in a group experience with aspiring teachers and dedicated students to cultivate, learn and grow. Whether you are interested in deepening your own practice or you feel the call to teach, the Shanti Yoga Teacher Training program is committed to the personal success of each participant. Students are encouraged to engage in 'svadhyaya' the Sanskrit term for self-inquiry and use the program as a significant part of their continuing journey on the road to self-knowledge. Students will acquire the confidence to communicate the practice of yoga to others with the highest level of skill while honoring their own unique voice and style. This program will broaden your perspective of yoga - culminating in an experience that is transformational on every level: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.

Shanti Yoga Teacher Training Advantages
Flexibility, Convenience, Value, and Excellence.
Our outstanding Teacher Training Programs evolved out of hundreds of hours of research, practical experience and development, and we are dedicated to providing the best education to all our yoga instructors in training. 3 delivery systems: Weekend Intensives, Correspondence or a combination of the two provide the flexibility most of us need today. We train teachers at the highest level of Yoga Alliance Certification: 500 hours. We also offer 200 hour, upgrade courses, and Advanced Training programs. You will be eligible to teach your practicum training at Shanti Yoga School or our affiliate in Boise, the Yoga Tree of Boise. We're highly motivated to train excellent instructors in yoga techniques, and we're looking for students who are equally motivated to become excellent yoga teachers. A majority of our graduates teach for us today.

Because we want to train our own teachers, we keep tuition costs low to help out. Teaching better teachers is our goal. Unique, proprietary teaching techniques will train you to teach with confidence and impact from day one. World class, in-depth course materials in anatomy, business, meditation, and all aspects of yoga will give you a solid foundation for a life in yoga. If you hope to own your own yoga studio later, you'll have the expertise to run your business, and a large pool of equally well trained teachers to teach. Topics covered in the 200 & 500 Hour program meet or exceed all the required standards set forth by Yoga Alliance in the areas of:

• Techniques: the guided practice of, and analytical training in traditional yoga techniques, including yoga asana, pranayama, mantra, and meditation

• Teaching Methodology: principles of demonstration, observation, assisting/correcting, instruction, teaching styles, qualities of a teacher, and business aspects of teaching yoga

• Anatomy and Physiology: both human physical anatomy and physiology (bodily systems, bones, muscles, organs, etc.) as well as energy anatomy and physiology (chakras, nadis, etc.)

• Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle and Ethics for Yoga Teachers: Yoga’s roots and historical developments, compare/contrast Eastern and Western Practices, ethical considerations for yoga teachers.

• Practicum: actual practice teaching, giving and receiving feedback and observing others teaching. Enrolled students are extended a 30% discount on all required books and workshops purchased at Shanti Yoga for the duration of enrollment in the program. There is no fee for required classroom observations.

Testimonials
If you’ve never experienced a yoga teacher training program, it’s difficult to describe the physical and emotional journey that you experience but it is one that everyone who has a passion for yoga should undertake – regardless of you desire to teach or not.”

“It’s life changing, life enriching.”

Commonly Asked Questions
1. When will my unlimited yoga begin? As part of the tuition to a 200 & 500-Hour Teacher Training Program, you are eligible for unlimited classes which begin once you are officially accepted into the program and we’ve received your deposit payment.

2. How proficient in yoga do you have to be to do the program? We are looking for students who want to learn more about yoga or who have a desire to teach. While it will be to your benefit to have a background in yoga, we acknowledge the most important attribute is this desire to learn. We look for practitioners who come to the mat with a level of maturity, a willingness to learn and an understanding of the limits of their own body. Keep in mind this program is not only for aspiring teachers, but people who want to deepen their practice.

3. Do I need to have any other qualifications to be accepted into the program? To qualify for our Teacher Training Program, you must complete an application.

4. What if I miss a class? To obtain a diploma and letter of completion you must attend a specific number of hours with a staff member to comply with Yoga Alliance requirements. Although our schedule has more than enough hours built in, if you need to make up more hours, we have devised the following policy. If you are unable to accrue hours through the regular schedule, you may still complete the program with your class provided that you schedule a private session with an Assistant Trainer at some point during the 9 months of the program. A two hour private session equates to one weekend. The cost of a private session is $50 per hour.

5. Do you offer scholarships or work-exchange programs? Shanti Yoga offers a limited number of partial scholarships each year to prospective students with exceptional circumstances. For a partial scholarship, Shanti Yoga offers up to 50% discount off the full tuition in exchange for 100 hours of a work-exchange position. Positions range from being an In-Training Assistant (ITA) to marketing and retail assistance. To apply for a scholarship, please contact the teacher training department for an application. Spaces are limited & not guaranteed to be available for every session.

6. How much time should I expect to spend on homework? Expect to spend between 8 to 10 hours per week on written assignments and class observations. The homework is designed to support the material covered in class and help you integrate what is presented into your own practice and teaching. If you are not planning on teaching after this course, you may choose not to complete all of the homework assignments and take the course for non-credit. However, if you wish to receive your Diploma and Letter of Completion for the course, you must accrue the necessary hours and complete all the homework assignments.

7. What is the Yoga Alliance? Yoga Alliance is an organization that was started in 1999 as a way to create nationally recognized standards for yoga teachers and yoga teacher trainings. More and more yoga studios across the country are requiring their teachers to register with the Yoga Alliance, either at the 200 or 500 hour level. Yoga Alliance registration, however, is not a legal requirement for teaching yoga. Currently there are no legal certification requirements to be a yoga teacher.

8. Will I be qualified to teach yoga once I complete the 200 Hour Teacher Training Program? Yes! With the successful completion of all the requirements of the program, including contact hours, homework, and exam, you will receive your Letter of Completion and Diploma evidencing your training. You may also register with the Yoga Alliance (http://www.yogaalliance.org) at the RYT-200 level (Registered Yoga Teacher 200). Graduates of the 200-hour program usually begin teaching in small studios, gyms, with private clientele (friends and family), etc. Many new teachers decide to continue their Teacher Training education and participate in our 500-Hour Professional Program as a way to further solidify their skills, knowledge and style as a yoga instructor.

9. Application for Shanti Yoga Teacher Training: Please complete and submit the application form. We request that you send a $250 deposit which will secure a space for you. You can pay the balance at any time or you can set up an automatic credit card payment by completing information found at the end of this application. Tuition for our 200 hour program is $1250. Tuition for the 500 hour program is $2250. If you are a graduate of another Yoga Alliance registered 200 hour program, you can add the extra 300 hours to receive certification from our 500 hour program by paying $1250. Your payment includes tuition, unlimited access to Shanti Yoga classes, Yoga Tree of Boise classes & workshops taught by Shanti Yoga School instructors, the Shanti Yoga School Manual and private mentoring. Textbooks are not included but are available in our store at 30% off. Workshops taught by other than the school's instructors are available at 30% off. Spa services and retail are available to you at 15% off. We expect coursework to be completed within one year not continue after that time unless arranged with the school?s directors.
