This program has brought out things in me I didnt believe I was capable of.
A child of the sixties, I’ve been intrigued by the Mind-Body connection for decades. Thoreau, Freud, Maslow, Kenneth Cooper, Bonnie Bainbridge were my heroes as I studied psychology, philosophy, exercise physiology through the 70’s; my studies earned me a B.S. in literature/poetry, masters in Psychology and Phd in exercise science. Believing there was still a piece missing, I also pursued the study of yoga with master teachers Richard Freeman, Rodney Yee, Shiva Rea and Seane Corn but felt I had truly “come home” when I took teacher training from Erich Schiffmann. Compelled to create a space dedicated to “finding peace within”, my dear friend and fellow yogi, Pamela Blasco and I created Shanti Yoga Studio & School in McCall, Idaho in 2001. We began with weekly classes, monthly workshops & advanced study/teacher training workshops and in 2009, developed Shanti Yoga Teacher Training program. Through personal experience and from teaching for the past 20 years, I believe in the transformative power of yoga, not only for the individual yogi, but society as a whole. I love to teach yoga and have expanded my schedule to include international retreats. I continue to attend advanced teacher trainings and workshops with master teachers, but feel my greatest influences are my students. My slow flow yoga style is inspired by my early study in biomechanics & exercise physiology…my attention to the emotional & cognitive aspects of yoga is influenced by my early study of psychology and neuroscience. …and the beat goes on. I want to say hello to all my fellow Yogis of McCall that I have not seen in a few years and introduce myself to those I have not met. Life has led me to a different geographic, though I am always at Shanti Studio in Spirit. I take great pleasure in being the co-founder of Shanti Yoga Studio and Spa and immense delight in having an art gallery on site “AUM”. I began studying yoga from a book in college and painting stepped in around the same time. These disciplines opened my world to what has been a yogic journey of diverse education. It has ranged from formal degrees and certificates that include intense workshops and -in the field training- of many alternative disciplines. I have studied with very well known teachers and gifted mentors in my ongoing years of seeking. I realize, however my greatest influence has been the quest for inner knowing, my essence. Teaching yoga and painting provide the connection of body, mind and spirit that is essential for me. I completed a two year intensive training in 2012 to become a spiritual director which has expanded my awareness further. I have a desire to share the lifelong pursuit of integrating body mind and spirit. I have become more acutely aware of the profound connection that yoga, art and spirituality give to me. It is a gift that manifests as grace. Today the result is freedom. I will begin teaching yoga and art in Laguna Niguel, CA at an assisted living facility. I believe I am realizing a potential for enormous love and sharing. My spiritual direction teaching will evolve. We are all connected by the golden thread and it begins, breathes and lives within each of us and as one. Aum, peace, amen.
Kasey has completed her 200 ERYT through Shanti Yoga’s teacher training school and continues to study for her 500 RYT certification. Kasey brings her lifetime of athleticism into her yoga practice. For 17 years she leapt from planes into the wilds of the American West to work on wildland fires. She built her strength through running, weight training, and calisthenics. She competed at the collegiate level in rowing, raced bicycles for many years, and continues to compete at Nordic skiing. Kasey currently teaches Nordic skiing in the McCall community.
Kasey earned a B.S. in Zoology with an emphasis on anatomy and physiology and other pre-med classes. A number of trips to physical therapists over the years, an interest in the workings of the human body, and the desire to stay active have afforded Kasey an acute awareness of body movement. Kasey brings this awareness and her physical strength to yoga and savors the camaraderie of sharing through teaching.
Jennifer’s approach to yoga focuses on a strong mind, body, spirit connection. Since completing her yoga teacher training from Shanti Yoga in 2009, she has immersed herself in opportunities to deepen her practice by studying with a variety of teachers and has evolved her own style and integrative approach to teaching. Her classes are a choreographed blend of pranayama, asana, meditation, soul nourishing music and poetry. Through her personal practice Jennifer has learned that yoga promotes physical healing through increased flexibility, strength and balance; with regular practice yoga also promotes emotional healing by helping us to begin to connect more deeply with who we really allowing us to live more authentically. She believes that with regular practice (Sadhana=Practice) we learn that yoga is more than having a super flexible body, standing on our heads, or folding ourselves into pretzels. It’s more about how you live your daily life on a moment-to-moment basis with an ever growing awareness of compassion for ourselves and others. Jennifer invites everyone to come join the practice and begin your journey to a healthier more joyful life.
Jennifer received her master’s degree in education from Northwest Nazarene University and has been a special education teacher in the McCall schools and abroad. She is a graduate of The Four Winds Society School of Energy Medicine, and an initiate of the Pachakuti Mesa Tradition of shamanic healing with don Oscar Miro Quesada. She has a Shamanic Healing practice and leads individual and group shamanic journeys. In her free time she loves spending time outdoors and is currently developing Buddha’s Garden Healing Sanctuary at her home in McCall.

Brooke is an RYT200 who obtained her credentials through Shanti Yoga School. A yogi since childhood, Brooke’s love for the strength and balance of yoga led her towards the personal journey of obtaining her certification… teaching yoga was never her intent, but a pleasant product of her schooling. While crushing madly on Gumby, Brooke has come to terms with the fact that their romance is not meant to be, and instead has turned her focus towards embracing a more encompassing approach to her yoga practice. Through her personal practice and her teaching, she emphasizes the physical, mental and emotional aspects of yoga, utilizing yoga as a tool to bring balance to daily life. Whether it’s the yin to your yang or the yang to your yin, yoga helps us become stronger, kinder and wiser, both on and off the mat. A graduate of Boise State University, long-time McCall resident and avid outdoor enthusiast, Brooke and her hubby have chosen McCall as home base to pursue a lifestyle of adventure, health and happiness. Outside of work, you can find her blissed out on the ski trails with her pup, Hazel, hiking to high mountain lakes, or rowing a raft down one of Idaho’s superb stretches of water. Lately, she and her hubs have become enmeshed in that adventure that is raising two small children, Lily and Logan. Life hasn’t changed. AT. ALL.

Kristin is a music-loving, experience-seeking, down-home girl from the suburbs of New York City. She first discovered yoga as a teenager, while searching for more and better ways to improve herself physically and fulfill herself emotionally. Kristen loves that yoga teaches one to both withdraw from the mundane realities of the world and, simultaneously, deeply experience the present. It is this duality that fed her attraction to vinyasa flow yoga. She relocated from New York to the mountains of McCall in 2006 and found Shanti where she continued to practice and learn. Twenty years after first finding yoga, Kristen graduated Shanti teacher training and began teaching in 2015. Kristen has Bachelor of Arts, Journalism and Master of Arts in Literature, both from the State University of New York at New Paltz and is a RYT200.

Jan was born lucky, under the skies of Idaho where the natural world of mountains & deserts shaped her life. After graduating from ISU with a degree in education, she followed her heart & began a broader education – traveling the world learning about how other people live and dream. Her first introduction to yoga was totally visual & kinesthetic, since language was foreign. Because yoga felt good to her body, settled her mind, & soothed her spirit, it naturally became her corner stone. Simply returning to deep breathing with intention enhanced every life experience. She settled in Hawaii & studied at The Silent Dance Center for 2 years, Iyengar alignment techniques enhanced her perspective. Taking classes from masterful teachers, meeting the kindest students in the world & being the fitness director for The Boise Racquet & Swim Club for the past 19 years has broadened her education. Learning never stops, yoga is always new. Jan is now happily living in McCall, surrounded by 200+ year old trees, gardening, hiking, paddle boarding, biking & laughing a lot! Again yoga is her anchor & constant inner guide.
